Prerequisites

The technical equipment prerequisites of Distance Computer Science are as follows:

  • Computer (Newish)
    You need a computer than can run mathematical software. The minimal specifications are as follows:
    • Windows XP or 2000, or Macintosh OSX or OS9, or Linux (mainstream)
    • 500Mhz processor or higher
    • 15" monitor or larger
    • Thousands of colors or higher
    • 256MB RAM or higher
    • 20GB Hard Drive or larger
    • Reliable phone or broadband connection to the internet

  • Confident with Email and Web Browser
    You need to be confident with checking, writing, and responding to email and web browsing. If you are not confident, it may be best to take a "computer skills course" before enrolling in a Distance Computer Science course.

  • Ability To Install Software
    Either from downloads via the Web, or from a CD-ROM, the ability to install software onto your computer for the course is essential. If you have never installed software onto your computer, it would probably be best to find a friend to help you with these skills at your location, or take a "computer skills course" before enrolling in a Distance Computer Science course.


    Academic Prerequisites For Distance Computer Science and Calculus Courses

    The Distance Computer Science courses, similar to its traditional classroom counterparts, have various prerequisites that must be met for each course. These prerequisites are listed here:

    • CS120 - Introduction To Computer Science
      No prerequisites.
